Paralegal/Legal Assistant IV

Place of Performance: On-site at U.S. Attorney’s Office located at 1441 Main Street, Suite 500, Columbia, South Carolina, for the first 45 days; after this period, hybrid work will be authorized. 

Period of Performance: One (1) year base period with four (4) option year periods to follow.

Schedule: Part-time, Monday- Friday from 8:00 am-1:30 pm with no holidays, overtime, or weekends. 

Position Requirements:

  • Must have an associate’s degree

  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of paralegal experience

  • Must have experience in the following areas:

  • Civil litigation

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize library resources and working knowledge of legal research tools to include proficiency in Microsoft software, Westlaw, and Lexis-Nexis.

  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.

  • Demonstrated legal writing skills.

  • Outstanding oral communication skills.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Creates and maintains an investigative or discovery log.

  • Reviews investigative and discovery responses for completeness and compliance with request.

  • Assists in the preparation of subpoenas.

  • Assists in document review and preparation for witness interviews, depositions, hearings, mediations, and presentations.

  • Verifies citations and legal references on prepared legal documents.

  • Prepares summaries of testimony and depositions.

  • Drafts and edits legal and non-legal memoranda to include requisite administrative forms and documents, standard motions such as for request for extension, research reports, and correspondence relating to civil cases.

  • Performs attorney support functions such as calendaring, maintaining electronic and paper files, maintaining litigation support databases, arranges travel and prepares travel documentation, and other similar duties to include administering Electronic Case Filing of Documents.
